Yesterday Apple held it’s biggest event of the year WWDC(World Wide Developer Conference) 2017 at San Jose , California. At this event Apple shows all off it’s latest tech.
First off Apple launched iMac Pro. It comes with 27-inch 5K retina display which has support for 1billion colors. It’s a beast when it comes to processing power. You can have up to 18-core Xeon processors and 22 teraflops of graphic computation power.
It has new Radeon Pro Vega GPU which can provide 11 teraflops on single precision and 22 teraflops on half precision. It supports 8GB or 16GB high-speed memory. It is specially build for virtual reality, real time 3D rendering and other serious I/O works. You can get full specs from here.
iMac Pro also supports up to 4TB of SSD and up to 128GB of ECC memory, and with four Thunderbolt 3 ports can connect to up to two high-performance RAID arrays and two 5K displays at the same time. It also features 10Gb Ethernet for up to 10 times faster networking for the first time.
The new Apple iMac Pro comes in space gray, starts at US$ 4,999 (Rs. 3,21,635 approx.) and ships in December.
New Macbook Lineup
Next up is the new Macbook Pro line up with 7th Gen Intel Kaby Lake processors. The new Macbook now features up to 1.3 GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.6 GHz and up to 50 percent faster SSD, and supports up to twice the memory. It weighs two pounds (900 grams approx.) and measures 13.1mm thin.
Also, the 13-inch MacBook Pro now has Kaby Lake processor up to 3.5 GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.0 GHz, and the 15-inch MacBook Pro has up to 3.1 GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.1 GHz. Apple also updated the 13-inch MacBook Air with a 1.8 GHz processor.
iMac has also been updated with Apple’s best display ever!. They are 43% brighter than the previous generation (up to 500 nits) and feature 10-bit dithering (so 8-bit panels simulating 1 billion colors).These iMacs are much faster than the previous generation.As the Macbooks they also have Intel’s new Kaby Lake processors (which offer higher frequencies and HEVC decoding). Also, you can add up to 32GB RAM in the 21.5” iMac, the bigger 27” model can go up to 64GB. For storage, you get up to 2TB fusion drives (i.e. HDD+SSD) with SSDs that are up to 50% faster.
Graphics got a big boost too. You start of with Intel’s Iris iGPU, which still offers up to 80% increased performance over the previous generation. For serious work, Apple turned to AMD Radeon Pro 5xx series. The big 27” iMac gets Radeon Pro 570/ 575 or 580 with up to 8GB of VRAM. The top-end version offers up to 5.5 teraflpos of computing power, great for VR. The smaller 21.5” iMac gets Radeon Pro 555 or 560 with up to 4GB VRAM. Get the complete specs here.
For the price the base 21.5” model starts at $1,100 and if you want a 4K screen, then it’s $1,300. The 5K iMac Retina starts at $1,800.
10.5-inch iPad Pro
Apple also introduced new iPad Pro models, which now comes in 10.5-inch & 12.9 inch models. These are powered by Apple’s latest A10X Fusion chip that promises 30% faster CPU speed and 40% faster GPU speed compared to previous generation. The new Retina displays now supports refresh rates of 120Hz. What that supposedly do is make watching media content very smooth and display will be more responsive.
The new iPads also feature 600-nits brightness, P3 wide colour gamut. Both the iPads have same cameras with 12MP iSight camera with True Tone flash, ƒ/1.8 aperture, Optical image stabilization on the rear and 7MP HD front-facing camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture.
Other features include Touch ID ,4G LTE (optional), Wi‑Fi (802.11ac); (2.4GHz and 5GHz); HT80 with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and GLONASS (only in Wi-Fi + Cellular). There is 30.4‐watt‐hour rechargeable lithium‑polymer battery on the 10.5-inch model and 41‐watt‐hour rechargeable lithium‑polymer battery on the 12.9-inch model. For full specs click here.
The new 10.5-inch iPad Pro comes in Space Gray, Rose Gold, Gold and Silver colors and is priced at $649, $749 and $949 for the 64GB,256GB and 512GB WiFi models and $779, $879 and $1,079 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular models, respectively.
The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes in Space Gray, Gold and Silver colors and is priced at $799, $899 and $1099 for the 64GB,256GB and 512GB WiFi models and $929, $1029 and $1,229 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular models, respectively. These new iPads will be available in the US and 37 countries and regions next week and will be available in India later this month.
Atlast Apple made it’s much anticipated Siri-powered speaker, HomePod official. Apple is late to the game, but anyhow this is rival to Amazon Echo & Google Home from Apple.
It is 7-inch tall and has functions like playing music, checking the news and controlling other connected devices in the home. Unlike it’s rivals HomePod focuses more on audio. It has seven tweeters, one high-excursioon woofer with 20mm diaphgram to give you rich sound experience. It has six-microphone array to actively listen to your voice commands. The HomePod also automatically figures out the surroundings and adjusts sound accordingly to give best music experience. There is Apple A8 chip that controls everything. It comes with Siri intelligence and wireless access to the entire Apple Music library.
Apple did mentioned that all the instructions to the the speaker are recognized locally on the device and they are encrypted. HomePod will be available for $349 in white and space gray. It will be available starting in December, initially in Australia, the UK and the US. Sadly we Indians will have to wait to get hands on this one.
